Fire Guts Senior Lawyer’s Chamber in Kwara
The Ghalib Law Chambers, owned by renowned legal luminary and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Prof. Yusuf Ali, was engulfed by fire on Wednesday.
The fire, which occurred at around 9:22 a.m., was reportedly caused by a power surge. Hassan Adekunle, the spokesman for the Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed the incident in a statement.
According to Adekunle, the quick response of the fire service prevented major damage to the chambers, which houses 79 office rooms. The fire was contained in just one office, limiting the extent of the destruction.
“On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at approximately 09:22 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service responded to a fire outbreak at Ghalib Chambers, Unity Road, Ilorin. Upon receiving the distress call, firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene. Their swift intervention prevented further destruction, containing the fire to a single office on the second floor of the two-storey building, which houses about 80 offices,” Hassan stated.
He further revealed that preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was caused by a power surge, which impacted an air conditioner and some books within the affected office.
