JUST-IN: Ex-NYSC DG, Brig.-Gen. Tsiga, Freed After 56 Days In Captivity
Brigadier General Maharazu Tsiga (rtd), the former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has been freed after spending 56 days in captivity. Tsiga was abducted from his hometown, Tsiga, in Bakori Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State, on February 5, 2025, along with nine other residents.
Tsiga’s release came after prolonged negotiations and the payment of an unspecified ransom amount by his family. A close family member shared that, after the ransom was delivered, the kidnappers remained silent for an entire week before contacting the family and allowing Brigadier General Tsiga to speak with them.
“The money was taken to them, and it was only after one week, on Tuesday, March 11, that they called, and we heard his voice,” the source revealed.
Further reports indicate that the kidnappers initially tried to demand additional payments, but no further money was provided. A top military official confirmed Tsiga’s release, adding that he is in good health. Tsiga is currently in Zamfara State and is expected to be transported to Abuja soon.
The abduction of Tsiga highlights the growing security concerns in Nigeria’s North-West region, where kidnappings for ransom have become a frequent problem. A member of Tsiga’s family, Abdulahi Tsiga, confirmed his release to LEADERSHIP on Wednesday night, bringing immense relief to his family and well-wishers who had been anxiously awaiting his return.
Tsiga’s safe return marks a positive development amidst the ongoing security challenges in the region.
