Police Dismiss Reported Herdsmen Invasion of Enugu Community
The Enugu State Police Command has rejected reports claiming that herdsmen have overrun and occupied homes and schools in Eha-Amufu, Isi Uzo local government area of the state. The police referred to the report as baseless and mischievous, designed to mislead the public and sow fear.
In a statement, the Command, through its spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, clarified that no community in Eha-Amufu or any part of Enugu State had been invaded or placed under siege. Ndukwe pointed out that while there were clashes between farmers and herders in 2021 and 2022 that led to temporary displacements, peace and order have been restored through joint security operations.
“The Police Command particularly acknowledges the intentional and intensive interventions of the Government of Enugu State to enhance security, especially in Eha-Amufu, under the leadership of Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah,” Ndukwe stated. He mentioned that these efforts included the deployment of 150 military personnel and Special Forces, establishing security barracks, and the construction of nearly completed access roads to farm settlements in the community.
Ndukwe further denounced the publication for using old images from unrelated incidents to support their claims. He revealed that forensic and digital fact-checking showed that some images, such as those of burnt houses, were taken from past attacks in neighboring states, particularly the February 4, 2025, attack in Nkalaeha.
The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has urged the public to disregard the false report and reiterated the commitment of security agencies to maintaining law and order across the state. He also encouraged citizens, especially in the affected communities, to cooperate with security agencies and report any genuine concerns through official channels.
