Rivers APC Claims Vindication Following Ex-HoS’ Allegation on Assembly Bombing

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed its satisfaction following the recent revelation made by the state’s former Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, which allegedly confirmed the party’s long-standing claims that suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara was behind the bombing of the State House of Assembly.

The APC had accused Fubara of orchestrating the bombing of the Assembly complex on October 29, 2023, a claim that was reiterated by Nwaeke in his recent statement. Nwaeke, who was the state’s number three official at the time, revealed that Fubara had directed his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, to carry out the attack as a means of preventing his impeachment by lawmakers aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike.

Rivers APC Chairman Tony Okocha reacted to the revelation, calling it a vindication for the party. He emphasized that Nwaeke’s position as the former Head of Service lends significant credibility to his account, stating that it could not be dismissed as hearsay.

Okocha noted that the bombing of the Assembly and the subsequent actions of the governor, including supervising the destruction of the complex, were highly concerning, especially given the economic challenges the state was facing. The APC Chairman reiterated that the political crisis in the state, which led to President Bola Tinubu’s intervention and the declaration of a state of emergency, was instigated by Fubara.

According to Okocha, Nwaeke’s testimony has now corroborated the APC’s position that Fubara was the mastermind behind the political turmoil in Rivers State, further cementing the APC’s role as a credible opposition party in the region. He also expressed confidence that security agencies would thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure that the truth is brought to light.

In his statement, Okocha praised the resilience of the APC as the voice of the people of Rivers, stating that the party remains steadfast in its mission to offer a better future for the state. He also expressed hope that the revelations would strengthen the APC’s position as a legitimate alternative in the 2027 gubernatorial elections.
