Tribunal Victory: Okpebholo Extends Olive Branch To Ighodalo, Dedicates Victory To Edo People
Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has expressed gratitude and unity following the ruling of the State’s Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which upheld his victory in the 2024 governorship election. The Governor emphasized that the judgment was not only a personal win but a victory for the people of Edo State, reaffirming the integrity of the state’s democratic process.
In a press statement issued by Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Okpebholo, the Governor extended an olive branch to his main opponent in the election, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urging him to join hands in rebuilding a better Edo State. He stressed that the decision of the Tribunal was a reflection of the overwhelming support shown by the citizens of Edo State and a testament to the people’s will.
“Today, Wednesday, 2nd April 2025, the Elections Tribunal delivered a resounding verdict, affirming the clear mandate of the people and upholding the victory of His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo,” the statement read. The Tribunal, after a thorough examination, dismissed all claims and affirmed that the election was conducted in substantial compliance with the Electoral Act, confirming Governor Okpebholo’s legitimate victory.
The Governor thanked the Tribunal for its fairness and diligence, expressing his appreciation to the people of Edo State for their continuous support. He also dedicated the victory to all citizens, describing it as a collective triumph that will allow the administration to continue its mission to build a prosperous and united state.
“This victory is not mine alone but a victory for every citizen and resident of Edo State. It is a mandate to continue the work we have started, to build a state where everyone has the opportunity to thrive,” Governor Okpebholo said.
Governor Okpebholo called for unity across the state, including from opposition parties and candidates, particularly Ighodalo, urging them to work together toward a shared goal of progress. “It is time to put aside partisan differences and focus on the common goal of building a better future for our State,” he said.
The Governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fulfilling its campaign promises, emphasizing that it would not be distracted by unnecessary litigation. “We remain focused on delivering good governance, transparency, and inclusive development for the people of Edo State,” he concluded.
