Police Take Fight Against Cultism, Extremism To Benue Schools
The Benue State Police Command has announced plans to address cultism and violence in schools through awareness and educational programmes as part of its upcoming National Police Day celebrations on April 7, 2025.
Catherine Anene, spokesperson for the State Police Command, revealed that the police would conduct a series of events to engage with local communities and enhance security. As part of the day’s activities, the police will organize a sanitation exercise across various communities, as well as a town hall meeting to engage key stakeholders in discussions aimed at improving policing in the state.
“The day will be used to commemorate the selfless services and value that police officers bring to society,” Anene said in a statement. She highlighted that the activities would include medical outreach, educational sessions in schools focused on combating cultism and violent extremism, community sanitation, and engaging local leaders to enhance collaborative policing efforts.
In addition, the Command expressed gratitude to various individuals and groups who have supported their efforts in maintaining security. Police Commissioner (CP) Steve Yabanet extended his appreciation to the Executive Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, for his unwavering support. Yabanet also acknowledged the contributions of traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders, youth leaders, and other stakeholders who have been instrumental in helping the command achieve its goals.
The celebration of National Police Day will provide an opportunity to recognize the essential role that law enforcement plays in promoting peace and security, as well as reinforce the collaborative efforts needed to combat crime and violence in the state.
