Suspected Gunmen Kill 10 In Plateau Communities

Suspected gunmen have killed at least 10 people in a fresh wave of attacks on five communities in the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. The attacks occurred on April 2, 2025, barely six days after a similar incident in Ruwi community, which also left 10 people dead, while three others were injured during a wake-keeping ceremony.

Comrade Farmasum Fuddang, Chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC), confirmed the attacks in a statement to journalists in Jos. He explained that the gunmen struck in several villages, beginning with Mongor, where they were initially repelled by security forces. The attackers then moved to Daffo, where they launched another assault, but again, security forces responded quickly, forcing them to retreat.

The gunmen continued their rampage, attacking the villages of Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai. Fuddang expressed his deep concern, saying, “In just one week, we have lost over 20 community members due to the activities of these enemies of progress.”

He added, “On April 2nd alone, they killed over 10 people. We thank the Nigerian military and police for their swift response to distress calls, which helped minimize casualties. We extend our deepest sympathies to the victims of the recent invasions in Ruwi, Mangor, Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai. We call on emergency agencies such as NEMA, SEMA, and the Nigerian Red Cross to swiftly provide relief to the displaced and injured.”

The latest attacks have caused widespread panic, with residents of the affected communities and neighboring areas fleeing for their lives.

In response, the Plateau State Government condemned the attacks in Mangor Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna (Tagai), Hurti, and Tadai. The State’s Commissioner of Information, Hon. Joyce Ramnap, in a phone interview, urged for calm among residents. She expressed the State Government’s condolences to the victims and called for restraint, urging citizens to remain vigilant but peaceful.

Ramnap further commended the efforts of the security forces and called for those responsible for the attacks to be brought to justice. “We commend the efforts of security operatives for their response and urge them to ensure that the perpetrators of this dastardly act are brought to book,” she said.
