Uromi 16: Kano Deputy Gov Leads Fact-finding Delegation To Edo
The deputy governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, on Thursday, led a high-level delegation to Edo State on a fact-finding and peace-building mission following the recent killing of 16 travellers by a vigilante group in Uromi, Esan North-East local government area of the State.
The delegation was set up by Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, in response to the violent attacks that claimed several lives and displaced dozens, including Kano State indigenes living in Uromi.
LEADERSHIP reports the tragic incident, which occurred last month, sparked widespread outrage and calls for urgent government intervention to prevent further escalation.
According to a press statement issued by the Deputy Governor’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, the delegation comprises notable figures such as the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Mohammad Isa Umar; Commissioners for Religious Affairs; Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Special Duties, and Women Affairs; the chairman of Bunkure Local Government Area, and other top officials of Kano State.
Speaking at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano before departure, Deputy Governor Gwarzo emphasised that the committee’s assignment goes beyond gathering of facts.
“Our mandate is clear — to investigate, to consult, and to recommend sustainable solutions. This is not just a fact-finding mission, but a peace-building initiative aimed at restoring confidence and preventing further violence,” he said.
During their week-long stay in Edo State, the delegation is scheduled to engage with the state government, security agencies, traditional rulers, and civil society organisations. The aim is to gather firsthand information, assess the situation, and facilitate dialogue that could lead to long-term peace and reconciliation.
This intervention aligns with the broader efforts of the Northern State Governors Forum to promote national unity and protect the rights of Northerners and other Nigerians living in different parts of the country.
