Suspected Serial Killer Surrenders To Police In Kano

A 20-year-old man suspected to be behind series of violent crimes across Kano and parts of Jigawa States has voluntarily surrendered to the Kano State Police Command.

The suspect, identified as Umar Auwal, alias ‘Abba Dujal,’ a resident of Wudil local government area of Kano State, confessed to multiple culpable homicide, armed robbery, and theft involving motorcycles and mobile phones.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kano State Command, SP Haruna Kiyawa, said Auwal’s surrender followed intensified raids targeting criminal hideouts in the state.

Kiyawa said these operations were part of ongoing efforts to restore law and order and safeguard lives and property.

Auwal admitted to stabbing a man popularly known as ‘Boka’ in Sabon Gari Quarters, Kano, and stealing his Infinix Hot 40i smartphone, which he later sold for N40,000.

The suspect also confessed to killing another victim in Kurna Quarters and making away with a Samsung S26 phone, which he sold for N160,000.

In a similar attack in Ringim local government area of Jigawa State, Auwal confessed to killing a man and selling his stolen motorcycle for N300,000.

The PPRO said the suspect was being held at the Homicide Section of the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where police detectives were conducting further investigations to authenticate his confessions and uncover other possible accomplices or crimes.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori commended the suspect’s decision to surrender and called on other criminals operating in the state to emulate him.

He also emphasised the Command’s determination to rid Kano of criminal elements.

The police urged the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that would aid ongoing security efforts across the state.
