Senator Ndume Commends Troops for Foiling Boko Haram Attack in Gwoza
Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has praised troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade for successfully repelling a Boko Haram attack on Gwoza, the headquarters of Gwoza Local Government Area in Borno State.
The attempted attack occurred around 11:08 a.m. on Friday, as insurgents believed to be hiding in the Mandara Mountains infiltrated the town through Guduf, a settlement located behind the Emir’s Palace.
Just a day prior, terrorists had launched a deadly raid on Yamtake village, about 14 kilometers from Gwoza, killing two soldiers and an unspecified number of civilians.
The renewed attacks prompted the Borno State House of Assembly to pass 10 resolutions, urging the federal government and security agencies to intensify efforts in combating insurgency across the state.
Senator Ndume, who is a native of Gwoza, described the situation as deeply troubling. In a heartfelt statement on Saturday, he lauded the swift and courageous response of the Nigerian military.
“Despite the sorrow of Thursday’s attack in Yamtake where we lost two brave soldiers and some civilians, our people endured yet another assault. I sincerely commend the gallant troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade, led by Brigadier General Nasir Abdullahi, as well as members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, local hunters, and vigilantes for standing their ground and repelling the attackers without any casualties among military personnel or civilians.”
Ndume further praised the resilience of Gwoza residents, stating that normalcy has returned to the town and daily life has resumed.
“Our people have shown exceptional courage. Businesses are open, and peace is being maintained. We must remain vigilant and support our troops as they continue to defend our land.”
Gwoza was once a stronghold of Boko Haram, where the group infamously declared a short-lived caliphate before the town was retaken by Nigerian forces several years ago.
