Gunmen Kill Herder, 4 Cattle In Plateau Fresh Attack

One herder, identified as Hamza Sulaiman, was reported killed when gunmen opened fire on grazing cattle around Shen community of Jos South local government area of Plateau state.

The State Chairman of Gan Allah Fulani Development Association (GAFDAN), and Chairman, Coalition of Fulani Registered Organizations, Garba Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Jos, said three cattle and a sheep were also shot dead during the attack.

In a swift reactions, Chairman of Du Development Association, Mr Silas Bot, told our correspondent on phone that although something might have happened before the incident, it is not enough justification for one to take the law into one’s hands.

According to him, often the herders harvest farmers’ crops to feed their cattle, he however appealed to the youths to remain calm and report any security breaches to the law enforcement agencies while they seek for lasting solution to persistent attacks.

Abdullah said the incident occurred when the deceased and other herders were grazing their cattle.

“The herders were six in number when grazing and the incident occurred. While the attackers started shooting, one of the surviving herders quickly called to inform us about the situation.

“Soon after I received the information, I rushed to a military checkpoint in Latiya, where I reported the incident. Security personnel and I moved to the area, where we found the cattle and the sheep killed,” Bayero said.

The state chairmen of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and Gan Allah Fulani Development Association (GAFDAN), Ibrahim Babayo and Garba Abdullahi, called on security agencies to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.

They also urged their members to remain calm and not take the law into their own hands, trusting the security agencies to address the incident.
