Ondo Monarch Olujigba Joins Ancestors At 87

The Olujigba of Ijigba in Akure South local government area of Ondo State, Oba Luyi Rotimi has joined his ancestors.

Oba Rotimi’s passage was announced on Wednesday by Prince Lanre Rotimi, the eldest child of the monarch.

Prince Lanre disclosed that the monarch passed away in the wee hour of Tuesday, 22nd April 2025, at the ripe age of 87.

The bereaved prince said the monarch passed away after a brief illness at Federal Medical Centre in Owo.

“The palace and family of Oba Luyi Rotimi, FCA London, the Olujigba of Ijigba, with a deep sense of submission to God, announce the passing away of our monarch.

“The monarch passed away at the wee hour of Tuesday, 22nd April 2025, at the ripe age of 87,” Prince Rotimi said in the statement.

He was appointed by the former Deji of Akure, Oba Adebiyi Adesida on 6th February, 2012 as the Olu of Ijigba.

The deceased monarch was later upgraded to a crown-wearing Oba on 24th August, 2022 by the late former Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu.

He was the Managing Director of defunct National Bank and later assistant Director General of the Nigeria Stock Exchange.

Oba Rotimi spent 13 years on the throne before joining his ancestors on Tuesday.
