Gombe Easter Tragedy: Police To Arraign Truck Driver For Dangerous Driving
The Gombe State Police Command has disclosed that it has finished investigation into the fatal accident involving a truck driver who rammed his vehicle into a crowd of Christians staging procession in celebration of Easter Monday in Billiri local government area of the State.
LEADERSHIP reports that the incident led to the death of five persons while 21 others sustained injuries.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Buhari Abdullahi, who made the disclosure on Friday, said the Police found the truck driver wanting in reckless driving that resulted to loss of human lives.
He said the Police Command would prosecute him in court on two count charges – inconsiderate driver and causing death by dangerous driving.
“The driver of the truck, one Usman Muhammed “M” 28years of Afghanistan Quarters, has been formally charged with (1) inconsiderate Driver and (2) Causing death by Dangerous Driving, and the matter will proceed to court. The Chief Magistrate Court seven (7) will be handling the legal proceedings.
“We extend our appreciation to all members of the public who provided information and support during the investigation. Any additional inquiries or relevant information can still be directed to the officer in-charge of State Motor Traffic Department at Police Area Command Gombe, Gombe State. Further updates will be shared as the legal process continues,” the Police spokesman stated.
