Insecurity: Kwara LGAs Donate 320 Motorcycles To Vigilante Groups

 

Following the invasion of parts of Kwara North by suspected terrorists, the 16 local government areas in Kwara State have acquired 320 motorcycles for distribution to members of the vigilante groups across the state.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the motorcycles were meant to aid the mobility of the local vigilantes in the thick forest where bandits and kidnappers usually hibernate.

A reliable source told LEADERSHIP that the distribution of the motorcycles commenced on Friday with each local government receiving 20 each.

A government official in Oke-Ero local government area in Kwara South confirmed that the council received 20 motorcycles on Friday.

When contacted, the Senior Special Assistant to Kwara State Governor on Security, Alh Muideen Aliyu confirmed the distribution of the motorcycles.

Aliyu said the gesture of the local government chairmen was complimentary to the efforts of the state government in maintaining peace across the state.

Similarly, the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has donated 150 motorcycles to the Nigerian Army.

A statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on New Media, Olayinka Fafoluyi said the motorcycles were expected to enhance troops’ mobility and effectiveness, particularly in rugged terrains such as forests where non-state actors may be hiding with intent to destabilise the peace of the state.

“This strategic intervention followed recent reports of the disturbances of non-state actors in parts of Kwara South and Kwara North,” Fafoluyi said.
