Gunmen Kidnap 7 Passengers As Police Rescue 2 Victims In Kwara

Gunmen have kidnapped seven occupants of two private vehicles at Eleyin Village in Isin local government area of Kwara State.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the incident happened at about 5:45pm last Friday when about five armed men blocked the highway, stopping two private vehicles and forcefully taking all occupants to an unknown location.

Sources disclosed that two occupants of one of the vehicles are the head, Legal Department at Oke Ero local government area, Barr. Elizabeth Arinde, and the Director of Personnel Management of the local government, Alh Musbau Amuda.

The chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Ilorin branch, SMH Kosemani Esq, in a statement, said that Arinde could no longer be reached through her phone and there was no information about her whereabouts.

Spokesperson of the state police command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, in a statement, also confirmed the kidnap incident, saying two of the victims have been rescued.

“The Kwara State Police Command confirms a kidnap incident reported at about 5:45pm on Friday, 25th April 2025, at Eleyin village via Isanlu-Isin. It was reported that about five armed men blocked the highway stopping two private vehicles, forcefully taking all occupants to an unknown location.

“Following the report, the command, in collaboration with the military and vigilantes, launched a swift operation, leading to the successful rescue of two victims, Ganiyu Ajayi and Kolawole Adeyemi,” she said.

The police also said that efforts were ongoing to rescue the remaining five victims and apprehend the perpetrators.

“The Command has intensified security measures across the area, including aggressive bush combing, strategic patrols, and intelligence-driven operations to prevent further occurrences.

“We assure the public that robust strategies are in place to tackle criminal activities and safeguard lives and property across the state.

“Residents are urged to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive by providing timely and credible information to security agencies,” Ejire- Adeyemi stated.

The police spokesperson said further updates will be provided as necessary.
