Tinubu Celebrates Mike Adenuga at 72, Applauds Telecom and Oil Sector Legacy

President Bola Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to Nigerian business magnate, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr., lauding his transformative role in the telecommunications and oil sectors as he marked his 72nd birthday.

In a statement released Monday, President Tinubu described Adenuga, the Chairman of Globacom and Conoil, as a symbol of vision, tenacity, and humility whose entrepreneurial journey has profoundly impacted Nigeria’s economy.

“From humble beginnings, Dr. Adenuga has built a legacy of resilience and innovation,” Tinubu said. “His success in banking, telecoms, oil, and gas has created jobs and opportunity for countless Nigerians.”

The President hailed Adenuga’s pioneering contributions to telecoms—particularly Globacom’s introduction of per-second billing, which revolutionised mobile access for millions—and praised his leadership of Conoil as a key player in Nigeria’s energy sector.

Tinubu also highlighted the billionaire’s philanthropic work through the Mike Adenuga Foundation, which has supported education, healthcare, and cultural development across the country.

Recognising his global footprint, Tinubu noted Adenuga’s investments across Africa and Europe, which have earned him international honours such as France’s Legion of Honour and Ghana’s Companion of the Star of Ghana.

On behalf of Nigerians, the President wished him continued health, success, and renewed purpose.

“Happy birthday, Dr. Mike!” Tinubu said.
