Akwa Ibom Bans Night Clubs, Brothels in Gov’t Reserved Area
The Akwa Ibom State Government has issued a directive to close down all night clubs and brothels operating within the Ewet Housing Estate (EHE) in Uyo, a high-profile residential area. The move is aimed at curbing the rampant noise pollution and other social disturbances, including prostitution, that have plagued the area.
According to sources, the action was triggered by growing concerns over the negative impact of these businesses on the peace and integrity of the estate, which is predominantly home to high-profile residents. In response, the Managing Director of Akwa Ibom Property and Investments Company (APICO), Barr. Patrick Udomfang, has given business owners a seven-day deadline to shut down their operations or face legal consequences.
“To all operators of night clubs in hotels and private properties, this directive is hereby given that such business is strictly prohibited,” Udomfang said. “Night clubs generate excessive noise, disturbing the peace and quietness of the area. Operations of night clubs have promoted anti-social behaviours, compromising the environment’s integrity and breaching the conditions of allocation.”
Ewet Housing Estate is considered a private residential zone, and the government has emphasized that the area’s peaceful environment must be maintained. The directive specifies that any non-compliance will result in serious repercussions.
The move is a part of the state’s efforts to uphold public order and ensure that residential areas remain serene and conducive for all residents.
