Internet Fraudster Jailed, Forfeits N124m and Luxury Car in Kwara

A Federal High Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, has sentenced 23-year-old internet fraudster, Adebisi Olalekan, to 24 months in prison without the option of a fine.

Justice Abimbola Awogboro delivered the judgment on Wednesday after Olalekan pleaded guilty to two counts of cybercrime, including impersonation and cheating, brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The court also ordered the forfeiture of assets linked to the crimes, including:

  • ₦124.4 million in his Wema Bank account
  • A Mercedes Benz ML350 worth ₦30 million
  • An iPhone 14 Pro Max

Olalekan, a native of Omuo-Ekiti, impersonated foreign nationals via fake Gmail and TextPlus accounts to defraud American victims of over $101,000.

The EFCC’s counsel, Sesan Ola, and lead investigator Paul Aniebonam provided evidence, including transaction records and statements, showing the extent of the fraud and how the proceeds funded the luxury purchases.

The judge ordered that the sentences run consecutively, and all seized assets be forfeited to the Federal Government.
