Police Arrest 6 Suspected Electric Cable Vandals, Cultists in Anambra
A joint security operation involving the Anambra State Police Command and the state vigilante group, Udo Ga Achi, has led to the arrest of six suspects, including four individuals linked to the vandalization of electric cables at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko (Okopoly), in the Orumba-North Local Government Area of the state.
The operation, conducted on Tuesday following a distress call, resulted in the recovery of several electrical cables believed to have been stolen by the suspects. The arrested suspects were identified as Chukwuka Usulor, Chukwuemeka Michael, Ikenna Oke, and Ebuka Oke.
In a separate operation, two suspected cultists affiliated with the Beggars’ Confraternity were also apprehended in the Oko community. The suspects, Anagor Chinedu (25) and Anagor Rapuluchukwu (23), were arrested at Ifite Village, Oko. Police recovered an English Beretta pistol from the suspects, who reportedly confessed to their involvement in cult activities.
According to Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects named an individual known as ‘Kiss Me’ as their armourer.
Following the arrests, Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed the security team to dismantle the cult group and apprehend the suspected armourer. Additionally, CP Orutugu has launched simultaneous operations across all three senatorial zones in Anambra to curb criminal activities and deny criminals any operational space within the state.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by the Anambra State Police to ensure the safety and security of residents and to clamp down on criminal activities such as cultism and vandalism.
