Those Waiting For Wike’s Downfall ‘ll Wait Forever, FCT Minister’s Aide Tells Ex-Ebonyi Gov
The Senior Special Assistant to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka, has responded fiercely to Dr. Sam Egwu’s recent remarks about Wike’s political future, stating that those expecting his downfall will “wait forever.”
Egwu, the former governor of Ebonyi State, had commented that Wike was “living on borrowed time” and that his political influence would soon fade. In a statement on Wednesday, Olayinka rejected Egwu’s assertions, emphasizing that Wike’s political success was built on his hard work, dedication, and the grace of God, unlike Egwu, who he described as a “spoon-fed politician.”
Olayinka accused Egwu of being envious and said his comments were reflective of someone who had mismanaged their own political career and assumed others would do the same.
“Unlike Egwu, who is more like a spoon-fed politician, Wike’s progress has been the result of personal effort and commitment, not mere luck,” Olayinka stated.
He also addressed the comments regarding the faction of South-East leaders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which threatened to withdraw support unless their demands were met. Olayinka pointed out that such leaders, including Egwu, failed to deliver significant support for the PDP in the 2023 elections, yet now sought to undermine the party’s constitution and threaten its unity.
“It is illogical for individuals who couldn’t deliver substantial votes in the 2023 elections to be threatening the party with withdrawal unless illegalities are performed,” Olayinka remarked.
On Egwu’s challenge to Wike regarding the suspended Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, Olayinka dismissed it as an absurd suggestion. He ridiculed Egwu for implying that Wike had the authority to act on matters reserved for the President and National Assembly.
“This type of statement, coming from a former federal lawmaker, is preposterous. How can a former Senator engage in such beer parlour talk? It exposes Egwu’s bitter regret over Wike’s political progress,” Olayinka concluded.
Olayinka’s response underscores the growing political tensions within the PDP, as figures like Egwu criticize Wike, whose political rise continues to provoke both admiration and resentment from certain quarters.
