Troops Kill 16 Terrorists Attempting To Attack Military Base In Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai Joint Taskforce North-East (OPHK) on Friday, killed sixteen (16) terrorists who attempted to attack 25 Task Force Brigade Damboa, in Damboa local government area of Borno State.

LEADERSHIP reports that terrorists had recently scaled up attacks on military bases in the state, with some brave troops paying the supreme price few days ago in Marte and Rann in Marte and Kala-Balge local government areas in such attacks.

However, the tide changed with the Damboa attack where the gallant troops, in a coordinated response with the air component, swiftly aborted the terrorists’ effort to attack another military base.

Confirming the troops’ success on Friday, the Nigerian Army in its social media platforms, said at about 1am on Friday 23 May, 2025, the gallant troops of Operation Hadin Kai, sighted a group of ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists in Damboa and immediately engaged them with sustained indirect fire.

“The main thrust of the attack targeted the Brigade, prompting the swift deployment of air support to assist ground forces. After approximately two hours of intense engagement, the terrorists were forced to retreat after suffering casualties.

“Troops successfully neutralised 16 terrorists in the encounter and are currently conducting a pursuit operation,” the Army announced.

It however added that although an ammunition storage area was hit during the exchange, but it was quickly brought under control with no further escalation.

Further confirming the killing of the terrorists, the Acting Deputy Director Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Reuben Kovangiya said troops were in continuation of the offensive against the terrorists.
