Tinubu Confers Nigeria’s Top Honour CFR On Bill Gates

President Bola Tinubu has conferred one of Nigeria’s highest national honours — the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) — on billionaire philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder, Mr. Bill Gates.

The honour was bestowed on Gates on Tuesday in Lagos, recognising his decades-long contributions to global health, development, and humanitarian efforts, particularly in Nigeria and across Africa.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the development via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

He said, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos on Tuesday night conferred the National Honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) on billionaire Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft and founder of Bill Gates Foundation. “

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has been a key partner in Nigeria’s efforts to combat polio, improve healthcare delivery, boost agricultural productivity, and strengthen public health systems.
