FCT, Neighbouring States To Experience Thunderstorms, Heavy Rainfalls

FEMD cautions residents

 

 

The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has issued an alert following a weather forecast by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), predicting thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and surrounding states.

The FCT is expected to experience thunderstorms and heavy rains in the early evening of Sunday, June 8.

Similar weather conditions are anticipated in states bordering the FCT, as well as Kwara, Benue, and Plateau States.

In a statement signed by FEMD’s Head of Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa, the Acting Director General of of the agency, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed urged residents to exercise caution, particularly when driving during heavy downpours.

“Please always wait for the water level to recede before driving through flooded areas,” he advised.

He also called on residents to take necessary precautions, including switching off electrical appliances during rainfall to avoid hazards.

The weather outlook extends into the coming days, with morning thunderstorms and rains expected on Monday, June 9, in parts of the FCT, Niger, Kogi, and Nasarawa States.

Early evening thunderstorms with rain are forecasted on Tuesday, June 10, in the FCT, Nasarawa, Benue, and Plateau States.

Mohammed further emphasised the importance of using the 112 emergency toll-free number to report any emergencies, urging residents to remain vigilant and adhere to safety guidelines.

He assured that FEMD continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary.

Residents are also advised to stay informed through official channels and avoid actions that may endanger lives and property during adverse weather conditions.
