Civil Society Coalition Demands Immediate Rescission of Destiny Ebagua’s Appointment as ESSAA General Manager

A coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) today expressed grave concern over the Edo State Government’s appointment of Destiny Ebagua as General Manager of the Edo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ESSAA). The group describes the move as a “dangerous oversight” that undermines the integrity of public office.

Documented reports link Mr. Ebagua to large-scale visa fraud, with evidence suggesting he was recently compelled to refund over ₦33 million to victims of failed travel schemes. Furthermore, allegations regarding his association with the Neo-Black Movement (NBM)—a group labeled as a transnational criminal organization by international authorities—pose a significant reputational risk to the state.

“Public office is a trust, not a refuge for those with questionable records,” a spokesperson for the group stated. “To appoint an individual publicly tied to financial impropriety and organized crime elements is an affront to the people of Edo State.”

The coalition calls on the State Government to immediately suspend this appointment and conduct a transparent vetting process to restore public confidence.
