Gov. Eno Urges Akwa Ibom Cabinet to Prioritize Timely Delivery of Democratic Dividends

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has outlined an agenda for the newly inaugurated 27-member State Executive Council (SEC), emphasizing the importance of delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.

The newly formed state executive council includes 25 commissioners and two special advisers. In his address, Governor Eno cautioned against complacency and any attempts to sabotage government policies and programs, as outlined in the ARISE Agenda blueprint of his administration.

The Governor made these remarks at the inaugural SEC meeting, which took place at the Exco Chambers of the Government House in Uyo, the state capital. The new Commissioner for Information, Elder Aniekan Umanah, conveyed this message to the press after the meeting.

Elder Umanah shared several key resolutions from the meeting, including the decision to rename the Ministry of Economic Development to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning. This change was accompanied by a directive to assign an additional Permanent Secretary to oversee the ministry—one focused on general duties and the other on budgeting.

According to Umanah, this restructuring aims to streamline budgeting and planning within a unified framework to ensure more effective development across the state.

The council also discussed the review of 35 new projects that Governor Eno has earmarked for launch before May 29, 2025. Additionally, the meeting emphasized the need to appoint Delivery Advisors for each project to ensure seamless execution, aligning conceptualization with actualization, and fostering the necessary synergy for meeting the projects’ timelines.

Furthermore, the council took note of plans to launch the proposed Maritime corridor in Oron by March, which will include a shore protection project, the construction of jetties, a ferry terminal, warehouse development, industrial cold rooms, and recreational facilities. These initiatives are expected to stimulate economic activities in the Maritime ecosystem and support local businesses in the region.
