Nedu Serves VeryDarkMan ₦500m Legal Notice Over Defamation Claims

eMedia personality Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, popularly known as Nedu Wazobia, has served social media critic Martin Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), with a pre-action notice following alleged defamatory statements made by VDM.

The notice, issued by Nedu’s legal team, was prompted by a 12-minute video shared by VDM on February 19, 2025, on his YouTube and Instagram pages. The video, titled “How Nedu Diverted NGO Scholarship Meant for Nigerians”, contained what Nedu’s lawyers described as “a host of defamatory, false, and disparaging attacks” against their client and his media company, Tokindrumz Picture and Media Ltd.

The letter clarified that Nedu does not own Tokindrumz but is a talent under the brand. It also rejected the claims in VDM’s video as false, particularly the accusation that Nedu was involved in defrauding an NGO.

The controversy began when comedian DeeOne, on the Honest Bunch podcast, accused VDM of engaging in intimate relationships with men. In response, VDM alleged that Nedu had orchestrated these claims, mentioning names of women Nedu purportedly had affairs with. This led to Nedu stepping down from his position as one of the podcast’s hosts.

Further tensions arose when VDM accused Nedu’s scholarship foundation, the Nedu Scholarship Foundation (NDSCHF), of defrauding a non-governmental organization (NGO) that had sought to collaborate with Nedu. Nedu’s legal team noted that after a police investigation, no legitimate case against Nedu was found, and the matter did not proceed to court.

In the legal notice sent on February 24, Nedu’s lawyers demanded that VDM retract the defamatory video within 24 hours, issue a public apology across all his platforms, and pay N500 million in damages. The letter further warned that failure to comply would result in further legal action.

The legal notice read, “Your continuous and relentless attempts to defame Nedu and Tokindrumz and tarnish their good and respected names are both unwarranted and damaging… Our clients did not commit fraud against MSBM.”

It also pointed out that while VDM had the right to free speech, such speech should be used responsibly and based on factual information, rather than baseless accusations intended to damage someone’s reputation.

Acknowledging the notice, VeryDarkMan shared a video on his Instagram page, telling his followers to prepare for the impending court case. “Nedu’s lawyers have served me o, so make una get ready for court case,” VDM said in the video.

The dispute between Nedu and VDM has generated significant attention, with both parties now heading for the courtroom to resolve the matter.
