Ramadan Begins Friday as Sultan Urges Muslims to Search for New Moon
The Sultanate Council has announced that Friday, February 28, marks the start of the search for the new moon that will signal the beginning of Ramadan 1446AH.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, urged Muslims to look out for the new moon on Friday and report any sightings to their local District or Village Head.
The reported sightings will be forwarded to the Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, who will make the formal announcement regarding the start of Ramadan.
