BREAKING: Obasa Declares Return to Office as Lagos Speaker

Mudashiru Obasa, the ousted Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, declared on Thursday that he has returned to his position as Speaker.

Obasa made the announcement after showing up at the Assembly for the first time since his impeachment on January 13.

“I’ve resumed and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” Obasa stated, as he arrived at the Assembly complex early Thursday morning, accompanied by Police and State Security Service operatives.

The reasoning behind Obasa’s decision to return to office remains unclear.

LEADERSHIP recalls that Obasa was impeached by a significant majority of Lagos State lawmakers on January 13 and replaced with Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, who made history as the first female Speaker of the Assembly.

Despite Meranda’s appointment, she has struggled to assert full control over the Assembly in recent weeks. A fresh leadership election was never held to reinstate Obasa, who had filed a lawsuit challenging his impeachment, though the courts have yet to rule on the matter.

This development further escalates the ongoing political crisis within the Lagos Assembly, which has been unresolved for several weeks.
