Police Make U-turn, Restore Speaker Meranda’s Security Aides
The Lagos State Police Command has announced that it has restored the security details of the embattled Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Mojisola Meranda.
In a statement made during a press conference on Thursday, the Commissioner of Police (CP) for Lagos State, Moshood Jimoh, confirmed that four security personnel previously withdrawn from Meranda’s detail had been reinstated.
The CP explained that the initial withdrawal of the Speaker’s security details, as well as those of other Very Important Personalities (VIPs) in the state, was part of an ongoing audit of police personnel and firearms. He further clarified that this audit was not exclusive to Lagos but was being conducted across various state police commands.
Earlier that morning, the security details assigned to Speaker Meranda, including the personnel at her office and residence, were removed. This development occurred around the same time that the impeached Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, arrived at the legislative building with armed police escorts, declaring his return to the office of the Speaker.
The decision to reinstate Meranda’s security aides follows public attention and concerns over the political situation within the Lagos State House of Assembly.
