Bandits Kill 17 In Deadly Attacks On Katsina Communities
At least 17 people have been killed, and several others abducted, following deadly attacks by bandits on communities in Faskari local government area of Katsina State on Monday. The assailants targeted Radama, Ungwan Baki, Ungwan Buntu, Mai Daura, and Yar Mai Kakgo, launching their assault on nearly 50 motorcycles and opening fire indiscriminately.
Eyewitnesses reported that among the victims were local vigilantes who had been working to protect their communities. In Ungwan Buntu, five people were killed, with several others injured and rushed to nearby hospitals for medical attention. The bandits also looted the villages, stealing livestock and kidnapping an unspecified number of residents.
The gang leader reportedly passed through Dankama village en route to the Yar-Tsamiya forest, with witnesses noting an unusual movement of stolen animals.
This attack is a stark reminder of the persistent insecurity plaguing Katsina State and other parts of northern Nigeria. Locals continue to express frustration over the perceived lack of government intervention to address the violence that has plagued their communities for years.
“We continue to suffer, facing relentless attacks with no meaningful intervention from the authorities,” said one resident. “Innocent lives are being lost, and yet, the necessary security measures seem elusive.”
The violence has prompted renewed calls for immediate action from the Katsina State Government. Citizens are urging Governor Dikko Umaru Radda to implement stronger security measures to protect lives and property.
“Security is the foundation of any functioning society. Without it, people cannot thrive,” a community leader remarked. “The government must act now to prevent further loss of innocent lives.”
At the time of filing this report, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Katsina State Command, Sadiq Abubakar, had not responded to requests for confirmation of the attack.
As Katsina continues to battle rising insecurity, residents are left hoping that the authorities will take decisive steps to restore peace and stability in the state.
