Russia Praises Trump for Showing ‘Restraint’ Against Zelensky in White House Confrontation
On Friday, Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, expressed approval of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s actions during his tense exchange with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House. Zakharova argued that Trump demonstrated “restraint” by refraining from physically confronting Zelensky during their heated argument.
She wrote on Telegram, “I think Zelensky’s biggest lie was his claim that in 2022, the Kyiv regime was alone and unsupported.” She then added, “How Trump and Vance managed to hold back from hitting that scumbag is a miracle of restraint.”
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, now deputy head of Russia’s Security Council, went further, labeling Zelensky an “insolent pig” and claiming he received a “proper slap down in the Oval Office.”
Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, also commented on the altercation, calling the confrontation between Trump and Zelensky “historic.”
Dmitriev had participated in Russian-American talks in Saudi Arabia on February 18, marking the first such meeting since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
