Ramadan: Makinde Urges Muslims to Rededicate Themselves to Allah and Pray for Nigeria

As the Muslim Ummah embarks on the holy month of Ramadan, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has called on Muslims to rededicate themselves to Allah (SWT) and use this blessed month to offer more prayers for his administration, Oyo State, and the nation.

Governor Makinde made this call following the sighting of the crescent moon on March 1, 2025, marking the beginning of Ramadan. In a message of felicitation, the governor congratulated Muslims in Oyo State and across Nigeria for witnessing another Ramadan.

He urged the Muslim community to embrace the spiritual significance of the month by renewing their commitment to worship Allah, showing love for humanity, and being more patriotic towards the state and the country.

“I congratulate the Muslim Ummah in Oyo State and Nigeria on the sighting of the crescent moon, which signals the start of the holy month of Ramadan,” Makinde said. “This is a time for us to rededicate ourselves to the worship of Allah, to the love of humanity, and to embody the virtues taught by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).”

The governor also referenced Surah Baqarah, Verse 183, which states: “O you who have believed, fasting is decreed upon you as it was decreed upon those before you, that you may become righteous,” emphasizing the spiritual purpose of fasting and self-improvement during Ramadan.

Governor Makinde expressed gratitude for the continuous support of the Muslim community towards his administration and encouraged them to pray for his leadership and for Nigeria. He prayed that Allah continues to guide the efforts to uplift the state and improve the lives of its people.

“Ramadan Kareem to everyone,” the governor concluded.
