No Crisis in Enugu Labour Party, Says Deputy National Chair
The National Deputy Chairman for the South-East region of the Labour Party (LP), Hon. Ceekay Igara, has dismissed claims about the sack of Barrister Casmir Agbo as the party’s Chairman in Enugu State.
Igara made the clarification during a one-day stakeholders’ meeting held at the Labour Party’s state secretariat in Enugu. He said it was necessary to address the false claims from some party members in the state who alleged that the Agbo-led executive had been dissolved.
The Deputy National Chairman described the reported emergence of a new state executive as untrue and baseless. He emphasized that there is no crisis within the Enugu State chapter of the party.
“I am here to speak to our officers because some people have been going around claiming to be Labour Party leaders. We want Nigerians to know there are no divisions within the party. Dr. Julius Abure remains our National Chairman, and in Enugu State, Dr. Casmir Agbo is still the state chairman,” Igara explained.
He further clarified, “We have not formed a new leadership in Enugu State, and anyone claiming the existence of a different executive is spreading confusion. I was informed during a radio interview that some individuals were pretending to be members of the executive in Enugu, so I came to verify. This meeting is legitimate and properly constituted, and there were no national officers in attendance at those unauthorized gatherings. I’m not saying they aren’t members of the party; I’m saying they’re not part of the officially constituted executive in Enugu.”
Igara encouraged prospective party members in Enugu State to approach the Casmir Agbo-led executive for registration.
Additionally, he accused some elected public officials from the 2023 elections, who ran on the Labour Party’s platform, of failing to contribute to the growth and development of the party in the state.
In his address, Agbo reaffirmed his commitment to serving the party with transparency and diligence, urging all members to uphold the provisions of the party’s constitution.
