Police Dismiss Reported Relocation of Bandits to Kwara

The Kwara State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that bandits fleeing Zamfara State have relocated to the Bani community in Baruten Local Government Area of the state.

The police clarification came in response to an online report published on Sunday, which claimed that armed bandits from Zamfara had settled in Kwara.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Command spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, described the report as “false and misleading,” adding that it was an attempt by mischief-makers to create unnecessary panic among residents.

“The attention of the Kwara State Police Command has been drawn to a report alleging that armed bandits fleeing military offensives in Zamfara State have relocated to Bani town in Kwara State,” the statement read. “The Command wishes to categorically debunk this claim as false, misleading, and intended to cause unwarranted fear.”

The statement further clarified that there is no intelligence or operational report supporting the presence of armed bandits in Bani. The police, alongside other security agencies, have ramped up surveillance to prevent any potential security breach in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, reassured residents that Kwara remains safe and that the police are well-prepared to respond to any security threats. He urged the public to disregard unverified reports and avoid spreading misinformation.

Residents were also encouraged to contact the Kwara State Police Command through its official channels for credible security information. In case of emergencies, the public can reach the police control room at: 07032069501 or 08125275046.
