Rivers Assembly Asks DSS to Probe Chief Judge Over Alleged Age Falsification
The Rivers State House of Assembly has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Simeon Amadi, over allegations of age falsification.
The resolution was passed during the Assembly’s plenary session on Thursday after the leader of the House, Hon. Major Jack, presented documents to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule.
During the sitting at the House of Assembly Quarters in Port Harcourt, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Dumle Maol, raised concerns about the alleged falsification of age by Justice Amadi. Maol emphasized the seriousness of the allegation, stating, “These documents before me simply say that the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Simeon Amadi falsified his age in service. Mr. Speaker, that is a very serious allegation, and I do hope that this House takes legislative notice.”
Following a debate on the matter, the Assembly resolved to direct the Speaker to send a letter to the Director of the DSS, urging the agency to investigate the allegation and report its findings to the House.
Speaker Amaewhule remarked that the documents presented raised a suggestion of age falsification, and that a thorough investigation was necessary to clarify the issue. After the matter was put to a voice vote, the House agreed unanimously to request the DSS investigation.
The outcome of the investigation will be awaited by both the Assembly and the public.
