Adebayo Announces Bid for SDP Presidency in 2027
Prince Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has declared his intention to run for the party’s presidential ticket once again in 2027.
Adebayo’s announcement comes at a time when the party is seeing a surge in new members, including prominent figures like the former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasiru el-Rufai, who recently left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the SDP.
Appearing on Arise TV’s ‘Morning Show’ on Friday, Adebayo stated that despite the political weight of the individuals defecting to the SDP, he remains committed to running for president in 2027.
“Let’s be clear about this — I am not concerned with the people joining the party. Everyone coming in knows that I am running in 2027,” he said.
He further added, “Any leader who feels threatened by people joining his party doesn’t have the temperament to lead the country.”
Adebayo also confidently stated that President Bola Tinubu would be defeated in 2027, predicting that the SDP would usher in a new presidency.
“Tunubu’s time in power is coming to an end, and we will have an SDP president in 2027,” he declared.
When asked about the potential for an opposition coalition, Adebayo clarified that the SDP is not currently in talks with any other party about alliances, but is open to discussions with any party that wants to explore the possibility of collaboration.
