3 Trucks, 1 Shop Destroyed In 2 Kwara Fire Incidents
Two fire outbreaks that occurred in Ilorin, Kwara State capital within 48 hours have led to the destruction of three trucks and a shop.
The first fire incident occurred on Monday at No. 1 Awolowo Road in the Tanke area of Ilorin at about 6:15pm where a shopping complex was razed.
The second fire incident occurred on Tuesday around 1:35pm at Alagbede Tipper Garage of Ilorin.
The spokesman of the state Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle confirmed the two incidents in separate statements on Tuesday.
“On Monday, March 17, 2025, at 16:15 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service swiftly responded to a distress call reporting a fire outbreak at No. 1 Awolowo Road, Tanke, Ilorin, Ilorin South local government area of Kwara State.
“Upon arrival, the dedicated firefighters immediately sprang into action to contain the blaze. The fire involved two shops, but through their swift intervention, the gallant firemen successfully prevented it from spreading to the second shop.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire originated from a solar battery in one of the shops,” Adekunle said.
On the fire outbreak at Trucks Garage, Adekunle said the Fire Service received a distress call reporting a fire outbreak at Alagbede Tipper Garage Ilorin on March 18, 2025, at 01:35pm.
“Responding swiftly, the fire crew arrived at the scene to find a fleet of trucks, some of which were already engulfed in flames. Through the gallant efforts of the firefighters, the fire was contained, limiting damage to only three out of the 42 trucks in the garage,” Adekunle said.
He added that preliminary investigations revealed that the fire originated from a waste collection truck that had been parked with refuse.
Adekunle said the refuse contained lit charcoal, which smoldered and eventually ignited, spreading to two other trucks before being extinguished.
