Rivers: State Of Emergency Predictable, Says ACF’s Spokesman

The National Publicity Secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Professor Muhammad Baba, has stated that the declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu was expected given the ongoing political and security crises in the state.

Speaking in his personal capacity during a telephone interview with LEADERSHIP, Baba expressed that the decision was not surprising, as the deteriorating situation in Rivers had made such a move almost inevitable.

“The State of Emergency was expected based on the situation in Rivers state. It is expected that the situation in Rivers can lead to this action taken by Mr. President,” Baba said.

He emphasized the importance of using this period of emergency to address the underlying political issues in the state, calling on all political actors in Rivers to come together and work towards resolving the crisis.

“I hope the declaration of state of emergency will bring a lasting solution to the political crisis in Rivers State. We call on all political actors to come together and end this political crisis now as the state of emergency is in place,” he added.

Baba’s statement reflects the growing sentiment that the declaration, while drastic, may offer a pathway to restoring peace and stability in Rivers State, which has been embroiled in political turmoil for over a year.
