Senate Approves 4 Nominees for Police Service Commission Membership
The Nigerian Senate has approved the appointment of four individuals as members of the Police Service Commission (PSC), following a request from President Bola Tinubu.
The confirmation came after the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, led by Senator Madori Abdulhamid (Jigawa East), presented a detailed report to the Senate.
In November 2024, President Tinubu formally requested the Senate to confirm the four nominees for the PSC, as outlined in a letter sent to the Senate. The letter, in part, read: βIn accordance with Section 154(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I am pleased to submit for confirmation the following nominees as Members of the Police Service Commission. I trust that the Senate will expedite the process of confirming these appointments.β
Senator Abdulhamid, in his remarks, urged his colleagues to approve the nominees, assuring them that they had undergone a thorough vetting process and were deemed qualified to serve on the Commission.
Senator Simon Lalong (Plateau Central) also commended the nominees, highlighting their professionalism and integrity. He stated that their appointment would bring valuable contributions to the Commission and help strengthen Nigeria’s policing system.
Other Senators echoed similar praise, unanimously affirming the competence and suitability of the nominees.
After confirming that no objections were raised during the debate, Senate President Godswill Akpabio moved the Senate into a Committee of the Whole. Following this process, the nominees were formally approved by the Senate.
The confirmed members of the Police Service Commission are: Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (Retired), Abdulfatah Mohammed, DIG Uba Ringim (Retired), and Justice Christine I. Dabup (Retired).
