Eid-el-Fitr: Police Call for Calm, Assure Adequate Security in Kano
The Kano State Police Command has reassured the public of comprehensive security arrangements to ensure peaceful celebrations during and after the Eid-el-Fitr festivities in the state.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, offered this assurance when he met with the Kano State Coalition of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), led by Dr. Musa Sufi, and the Police-Community Relations Committee (PCRC), headed by Amb. Comrade Ali Hassan Tudun Bayero.
In a statement released by the Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, it was noted that the visitors expressed concerns about security during the Eid celebrations, particularly regarding the Durbar festivities. There were fears among residents about potential violent clashes, especially with the possibility of rival groups holding parallel celebrations.
The Police Commissioner acknowledged these concerns, emphasizing that the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, was re-strategizing and exploring all options to prevent any disruptions to law and order. He also reassured the public that all necessary measures were in place to maintain peace during the holiday period.
CP Bakori urged residents of the state to remain calm and prioritize peace, reminding them to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or use the emergency contact numbers provided: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.
“As we celebrate this joyous occasion, let us remember that peace is paramount. We must prioritize peace above everything else, putting aside our differences and coming together as one people for the progress of the State and the Nation at large,” he said.
The Police Commissioner further called on community, religious, and opinion leaders to join efforts in promoting peace and diffusing tensions, ensuring that the Sallah celebration remains peaceful and enjoyable for all.
