Sokoto Central Senator Wamakko Secures Release of 60 Inmates
Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, representing Sokoto Central in the Senate, has facilitated the release of 60 prison inmates, reuniting them with their families.
For over a decade, Senator Wamakko has spent millions of naira to pay fines and secure the freedom of inmates who were imprisoned for minor offenses. This year, he continued his tradition of aiding inmates by securing the release of 60 prisoners just in time for Eid celebrations. His gesture also contributes to alleviating overcrowding in detention centers.
At the ceremony to release the inmates, Sokoto State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Nasir Muhammad Binji, who was represented by Barrister Umar Aliyu, congratulated the freed inmates and commended Senator Wamakko for his ongoing commitment to supporting the less privileged and disadvantaged individuals across the state.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Sokoto State Chapter, Barr. Rashida Muhammad, also urged the released inmates to avoid engaging in criminal activities in the future and prayed for Allah to abundantly reward Senator Wamakko for his efforts.
Senator Wamakko’s representative at the event, Barr. Abdulhamid Zubair, explained that the release of the inmates was part of the senator’s broader philanthropic initiatives. He encouraged the freed individuals to reflect on their past actions and seek repentance.
Additionally, each of the 60 freed inmates was given N10,000 by Senator Wamakko to assist with their transportation back to their homes.
