3 Feared Killed In Abuja Road Accident
Three persons were on Monday feared to have died when a trailer loaded with sacks of onions and pepper was involved in a deadly accident at Tipper Garage Junction, along the Dutse-Bwari Road in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The accident comes barely 48 hours after a previous trailer accident resulted in over ten fatalities on Saturday evening.
An eyewitness, Ismaila Hussein, a clothing vendor at the junction said, “The trailer was coming from Bwari town when its brakes failed near Usuman Dam.”
The accident occurred at approximately 11:55 am, resulting in the immediate deaths of two occupants of the trailer and a bystander who was struck by a Prado Jeep that was hit by the trailer.
“I was on the phone with a customer at around 11:55 am when I saw the trailer honking and descending with uncontrollable speed. That was when we realised another trailer had lost its brakes.
“Fortunately, there were not many vehicles on the road at that time only a Prado Jeep, which the trailer hit from the back. The impact caused the Prado to collide with a Keke Napep and a bystander who unfortunately died on the spot; the body was removed from under the vehicle,” he said.
Another eyewitness, Mrs Glory Emeka, a Point of Sales (PoP) operator, appealed to the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike to find solution to the incessant acccidents at the junction, saying it is getting out of hands.
“We are no longer safe again as we cross this junction. We are living in fear because of trailer drivers coming from Bwari town to Dutse. The minister should come to our rescue, because we don’t know who is the next victims of the trailer,” she said
Meanwhile, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police have taken the remains of the victims to the morgue, while the injured persons were taken to hospital for medical attention.
