Federal Government to Build 100 Housing Units in Each of 774 LGAs

Targets Low-Income Earners and Vulnerable Groups as Beneficiaries

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has announced that the much-anticipated Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme will soon be launched by President Bola Tinubu. The initiative is part of efforts to address the housing needs of Nigerians, regardless of their income level or social class.

The Minister made this announcement during a meeting with a delegation from Creative Sphere Limited at the Ministry’s headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja, on Thursday.

Arc. Dangiwa explained that the programme is designed to provide homes for low-income earners, the unemployed, vulnerable groups, and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), aiming to serve both the formal and informal sectors.

As part of the initiative, the Federal Government plans to construct 100 housing units in each of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas, totaling 77,400 housing units. The construction is expected to be completed within a year from the date of launch.

Describing the programme as visionary, the Minister emphasized that it reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring every Nigerian has access to decent housing. He added that it underscores the president’s dedication to creating a better Nigeria where even the most vulnerable can own a livable home.

The programme will be funded through the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund (RHIDF).

Regarding the allocation of the completed houses, the Minister explained that 80% of the units will be sold to Nigerians living in the local government areas who earn a living wage. Interested individuals will need to contribute one-third of their monthly income. For example, someone earning N30,000 per month will pay N10,000 monthly for a house, while someone earning N90,000 will pay N30,000.

Each housing estate will be equipped with essential facilities, including recreational areas, a primary school, a police outpost, a clinic, and a shopping mall.

The remaining 20% of the houses will be allocated free of charge to vulnerable citizens, such as widows, orphans, and others with low or no income.

Arc. Dangiwa also noted that the Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme is the third component of the broader Renewed Hope Housing Initiative, which also includes the Renewed Hope Housing Estates and Renewed Hope Cities, making up a comprehensive housing strategy.

Earlier, Chairman of Creative Sphere Limited, Monday Ogedengbe, shared that their visit aimed to explore collaboration with the Ministry for an event scheduled later this year. He highlighted that Creative Sphere intends to emphasize the role of real estate in national economic growth through a carnival-style awareness campaign, both nationally and internationally.
