Explosion Rocks Camera Shop in Lagos, Several Injured
A late-night explosion at a camera shop on Kodesoh Street in Ikeja, Lagos, left several people injured on Friday, sparking panic and a swift emergency response.
According to eyewitness accounts, the blast occurred when a shop attendant attempted to open a suspicious parcel delivered to the store. The resulting explosion caused injuries to multiple people and set off a fire, prompting immediate intervention from emergency services.
Responding teams included officers from Area G Police Station, bomb disposal experts from EOD-CBRN Base 23 Ikeja, and personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), who quickly moved to secure the area and manage the situation.
One eyewitness, Lucky Okoro, described the terrifying moment the blast occurred. “It was just after six in the evening. I was about to enter the shop when the explosion went off. As soon as I stepped on the pavement, I was pushed back by the force of the blast. I saw a woman and a man inside the shop on fire. I didn’t wait—I ran for my life.”
Another witness, Olumide Gbeleyi, recounted his experience from a nearby hotel: “I was upstairs when smoke started filling the air. We were told to evacuate, and once outside, we saw it was from the camera shop. A lady selling snacks outside was badly burned, and another woman had to remove part of her clothing because it caught fire.”
Sule Aminu, a local resident familiar with the shop, suggested the explosion might have been a targeted attack. “The shop owner runs three connected stores along the street, all monitored by CCTV. A package was delivered earlier in the evening. When one of the attendants opened it, it exploded. They’ve already checked footage from the other shop to understand what happened.”
Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the cause of the explosion or confirm the number of casualties, but investigations are reportedly underway.
