Police Arrest Man for Assaulting Woman in Adamawa
The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested one Umar Shaibu for the alleged physical assault of a 22-year-old woman, Salamatu Yakubu, in the Jimeta area of the state.
The arrest followed the viral circulation of a disturbing video showing the assault, which occurred on March 13, 2025. According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Suleiman Nguroje, the incident involved Shaibu, reportedly the victim’s uncle, severely beating Salamatu in Angwan Tana.
The video, recorded by a bystander and shared across social media platforms, sparked widespread outrage and condemnation from the public. Concerned citizens, NGOs, and civil society groups called for swift action from law enforcement authorities.
Acting on these calls and utilizing community policing strategies, the police, with help from members of the public, successfully tracked down and arrested the suspect.
The victim has since been taken to the hospital, where she is receiving medical care and is said to be responding to treatment.
Shaibu is currently being held at the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where investigations are ongoing.
The Adamawa State Police Command has pledged to ensure a thorough investigation and to prosecute the suspect in accordance with the law, reaffirming its commitment to protecting the rights and safety of all residents.
