7 Killed As Insurgents Launch Fresh Attack In Adamawa
At least seven persons have been confirmed dead following a fresh insurgent attack on Garaha Lar village in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Usman Wa’aganda, said the attack resulted in multiple fatalities, destruction of homes and properties, and the displacement of residents. He also noted that one resident remains missing in the aftermath of the assault.
Tragically, a local vigilante was also killed after a bomb exploded while he was attempting to secure the area. Wa’aganda explained that the situation remains volatile due to the fear of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) suspected to have been planted by the attackers.
“Access to the attack site is limited due to fear of additional IEDs. Many people have fled and are yet to return,” he said.
In a separate development, a police patrol van from the Garaha Police Station was destroyed by an IED, though no police officers were harmed, as they had exited the vehicle moments before the explosion.
The local government chairman issued an urgent appeal to the federal government and relevant authorities for:
-
Increased military deployment to secure the area
-
Shelter and humanitarian aid for the displaced and affected villagers
“We are appealing for more military deployment and shelter interventions for the affected victims,” he said.
Efforts to reach the Nigerian military for official comments or further clarification were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
