Anambra 2025: I’m LP’s Authentic Gov’ship Candidate — Nwosu

One of the aspirants of the Labour Party (LP) ahead of the November 8, 2025 Anambra State governorship election, Mr. John Nwosu, has claimed that he is the authentic candidate of the party for the election.

Nwosu stated this in an interview with newsmen in Okija, Ihiala local government area of the state where he dismissed the emergence of a former Managing Director of the Nigerian Inland Waterways (NIWA), Chief George Moghalu during the party’s primary held on 5th April, 2025.

He argued that the Supreme Court judgement of 4th April, 2025 which nullified the Appeal Court’s decision that sacked Barr Julius Abure as the party’s national chairman also rendered the party’s national team that conducted the primary that produced Moghalu an illegal team considering that the team was constituted by Abure.

He, also, dismissed the emergence of the party’s member representing Onitsha-South 1 constituency in the state House of Assembly, Hon Ifeanyi Jude Umennajiego during another primary of the party held on 10th April, 2025.

Nwosu contended further that Umennajiego was never cleared to participate in the primary and that the party’s constitution did not make provision for “placeholder”.

Although Nwosu said he would explore all internal mechanisms of the party to get his candidacy of the LP affirmed by all relevant authorities including the party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), he, however, warned that he would head to court to seek justice if the party’s mechanisms failed.

“The Supreme Court ruling of 4th April, 2025 was definitive. We know who the leaders of LP are. It’s now up to INEC to do the needful for the process to continue.

“The primary of 5th April is null and void and the primary of 10th April should be upheld, except of course that the issue of a place holder is extraneous to the established process.

“I am a firm believer in due process and rule of law. So, I remain in the race for the candidacy. In the fullness of time, there will be clarity and vindication”, he stated further.

Nwosu said he had already appealed to the party’s national caretaker committee headed by Senator Nenadi Usman to intervene and accord him recognition as the party’s governorship candidate for the Anambra election.

“Of course, I am and my appeal is before them. Once the Easter holidays are over, they will, indeed, make a pronouncement,” he said.

“Very much so. The electoral processes are clear and full of established precedents. Something has to give.

“I’m a team player. I hope it does not come to that. But if push comes to shove, I am ready to exhaust all remedies”, Nwosu warned.
