E-Money: VeryDarkMan Accuses EFCC Of Bias Against Igbos

Controversial social media critic, Martin Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of ethnic bias following the arrest of Lagos socialite and businessman, Emeka Okonkwo, popularly known as E-Money.

Recall that E-Money was reportedly arrested by EFCC operatives on Monday night at his residence in the Omole area of Lagos for allegedly violating the Foreign Exchange Act and engaging in Naira abuse. According to sources within the commission, he was taken into custody for allegedly spraying US dollars at a public event and defacing Naira notes.

However, in a viral video shared on his social media page on Tuesday, VeryDarkMan challenged the EFCC’s integrity, alleging that the arrest was motivated by tribal prejudice, especially against the Igbos.

“As I speak to you now, E-Money is currently in detention at the EFCC. I know the EFCC is wondering how I found out, but like I said, I got eyes everywhere, and I get informants everywhere,” he said.

He claimed that about 50 EFCC operatives stormed E-Money’s house to effect the arrest and argued that the basis for the arrest was flimsy.

“EFCC took him not because he sprayed money, because, according to them, as he was spraying pounds, his leg touched the Naira. That is why he was arrested. They said it is ‘Naira Mutilation’. So, somebody who is going to spray pounds should now be conscious of the ground at a party that is filled with people?” he queried, displaying a video of E-Money spraying money on singer Flavour during Obi Cubana’s 50th birthday celebration.

VeryDarkMan drew comparisons between E-Money’s case and that of a Yoruba businessman’s son, reportedly involved in a similar incident of Naira abuse, whom he claimed was neither arrested or prosecuted.

“Okoya’s son, a Yoruba man’s son, committed the offence of naira mutilation. Even the Force PRO confirmed it, and the policeman present was arrested. Okoya’s son was only invited. Still, nothing was done. But you went to E-Money’s house to arrest him because his legs touched the Naira,” he argued.

He further accused the EFCC of running a “tribal game” and claimed there was a wider conspiracy against Igbos in Lagos.

“I am beginning to believe this story that people are against the Igbos in Lagos. There is a conspiracy. The EFCC commander in Ilorin, who handled the EzeeTee case, has now been transferred to Lagos and he’s handling E-Money’s case. Both of them are Igbos. I see the tribal game going on,” VeryDarkMan added.

While distancing himself personally from E-Money, VeryDarkMan condemned the arrest and called for his immediate release.

“I am not a fan of E-Money. I don’t even like him at all. I don’t like his lifestyle; I don’t even want to know him. But you people should release E-Money. If you cannot take Okoya’s children to court, why are you harassing everybody?”

He also warned Nigerian celebrities to be cautious, suggesting they were being targeted to serve as scapegoats.

“To the celebrities, they are purposely targeting a lot of you deliberately so that they can now show Nigerians that they are working. They are not working. EFCC is the most corrupt. Like I said, 90% of them are corrupt. When they are ready to let me prove it, I will prove it,” he said.

He concluded with a further swipe at the agency, accusing it of ignoring political elites while harassing entertainers.

“EFCC, you did not follow the politicians. Governors steal money and go free. Okowa is still there; he has joined the APC. But you go and carry E-Money. Let me spray Naira so that you can come and carry me. Corrupt people. Thieves,” VeryDarkMan stated.
