Tinubu Heads to Brazil for G20 Leaders’ Summit
Scheduled for November 18–19, the Summit will convene leaders from the world’s 20 largest economies, alongside representatives from the European Union, African Union, and key international financial institutions. This year’s theme, “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,” will steer discussions on global priorities such as combating hunger and poverty, reforming international governance institutions, and promoting sustainable development and energy transition.
Nigeria’s Push for Global Governance Reform
Nigeria, a long-time advocate for reforms in global governance, is expected to use the platform to reiterate its call for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. The country has consistently highlighted its potential and credentials to play a more prominent role in global decision-making.
Bilateral Engagements Planned
On the sidelines of the Summit, President Tinubu will engage in bilateral meetings aimed at advancing Nigeria’s socio-economic reforms and fostering partnerships that align with the administration’s development goals.
Delegation and Accompanying Officials
President Tinubu will be accompanied by a delegation of senior government officials, including:
- Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar
- Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha
- Minister of Art, Tourism, Culture, and Creativity, Hannatu Musawa
- Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi
- Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed
The President is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the Summit.
