EFCC’s Desperate Attempt to Silence Critics Exposed
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has once again demonstrated its blatant disregard for transparency and accountability by abruptly ending a Twitter Space event titled “Youth Against Corruption: A Meeting with the EC.” This cowardly act was undertaken to avoid answering pertinent questions regarding the Commission’s selective justice system and its failure to prosecute high-profile corruption cases involving prominent individuals such as Godswill Akpabio, Aminu Tambuwal, and Abdullahi Ganduje.
During the live event, a participant courageously raised concerns about the EFCC’s selective enforcement of the law. The Commission, sensing that its carefully crafted narrative of combating corruption was about to be dismantled, resorted to silencing the discourse by abruptly ending both the Twitter Space and the accompanying Facebook Live event.
This desperate move by the EFCC highlights its deep-seated fear of public scrutiny and its unwillingness to address legitimate concerns. It underscores the urgent need for greater transparency and accountability within the Commission. The public deserves answers, and the EFCC must be held to account for its actions.
We call on civil society organizations, the media, and the general public to condemn this blatant attempt to suppress free speech and to demand a thorough investigation into the EFCC’s selective justice practices.
